The Different Gates Of Horses

Hello and welcome back to Everything horses! Today I am going to tell you about the gates of horses. Let’s get started!

So the gates of horses are basically just like how you walk, run, sprint ect. The different gates of horses are: walking, you use this gate when you get on or your horse needs a walk break. This gate is pretty smooth. They need walk breaks every 10 minutes or so.

The next gate is: trot, you use this gate after you walk but before you canter. This gate is a little more bouncy but it depends what horse you are on.

The next gate is called: the canter. This is the last gate you normally use. This is the gate you use when you are going over jumps. This gate is smooth but again it really depends what horse you are on.

The final gate is called: gallop, this gate normally people don’t use but it is used in horse racing.

Thank you for reading see you later on everything horses!

  1. I had no idea that horses need a walk break for 10 minutes of every hour! How long do they need to walk as a warm up when you first begin riding? What gate do you prefer as a rider?
